Biography:
Nobody knows much about Frederick Bumbleridge before he and his wife arrived at Port de Couler de Bateaux. They showed up in a ship one day, auctioned it off, and used that money to buy an inn that had been closed for nearly two decades. Fixing the place up, they soon had a bustling business going. There were occasionally customers who swore he looked like a pirate they’d seen named Black Fred, but he would always laugh heartily and shrug it off (because, of course, he was!).
He and Jemima were never able to have children of their own, but he leapt at the chance to take in a young girl who was the adopted daughter of a desperate sea captain. Though he was to return in a year’s time and did not, Fred had come to love the girl and her alleged sister as his own granddaughters. To prove this, he left them his most valued possession – a golden locket with a secret, before he passed away.
